Book Review: How Christianity changed the world!

This book, written by Alvin J. Schmidt,  is a very well written and even more compelling read regarding the history of the church; and how Christianity has impact many different arena of life and living   I would say that it has to be read all the way though as I have done; but if one is interested only in certain areas-- there is no harm in considering those in their own right.  While there certainly are other volumes out there which deal with the subject from a more academic or theological perspective-- this seeks to provide on a more of a layman point of view but still delivering some much needed information on many important areas.

There are two reasons that immediately come into view as to which this is a much needed work:  (1)   it shows us the greatness of the Christian faith; and all that it has done for the betterment of society; even though many are prejudices against for almost superficial reasons. (2) it gives us some of the most balanced reviews on several key points such as the sanctity of life (Ch.2); Christian ethics and morality (Ch. 3); dignity and worth of women (Ch. 4).  These alone would make this work worthy of a read. But there are other chapter which stand out as well science: it Christian connection (Ch. 9)  Liberty and justice for all (Ch.  10) ; and slavery abolished: a Christian achievement (Ch. 11)

However,  even before we get these important matters above there is one chapter which serves as both an introduction to the saving work of the gospel; and a grounding for all that follows it from that point on. It is the first chapter:  people transformed by Jesus Christ. And the text that serves it basis is from Romans 12: and verse 2.  Let us thank God for men who stand out as a beacon of light to the lost souls-- and gives an honest accounting of the goodness and glory of Christian truth and how it truly changes both the individual and the society through those individuals.
