Book review: Mormonism-- 2 books.

Here we have two important apologetical work on Mormonism from a Christian perspective written by James R. White of  Alpha and Omega Ministries (we have considered several of His books before now) These books are important for all who have taken time to consider the claims of LDS in order to know what it teaches and if it is truly of the Christian Faith or not.

Let us note in passing that the book on the left is more of a scholarly assessment of this movement and it is 227 page book; whereas the book on the right is written as correspondence between a Christian and a Mormon which spans 298 pages and is a more of a layman's approach.

There are a number of things to take note of in these books:

(1) It should be noted that 'Letters to a Mormon Elder' is set in a more friendly tone when dealing with major subjects of both faiths. It is mostly based on His own interactions with various Mormons throughout the 80's. There are a number of important chapters: but is it translated correctly (Ch. 1); Further tests of Joseph Smith (Ch. 7) The books of Mormon and Abraham (Ch. 8)  The truth about Jesus Christ (Ch. 12) The Atonement and Priesthood of Christ (Ch. 13).

(2) Now I would like to add that 'Is the Mormon my brother'  though being scholarly; nonetheless, it is a wonderful addition on this movement. And the way that James maps out the differences between the two faith is striking. He devote 4 chapter to the concept of 'the Mormon doctrine of God' (chapters 4-7) which deal with the stages or evolution of the Mormon concept of who and what God is. These chapters help us a great deal. Two stand out chapter in this work are the following: how wide the divide (11) which is an assessment of one Mormon Apologist attempt to reconcile the two faiths. Theosis-- becoming a God (Appendix)

I would recommend both of these books.
